Dartmouth College is a private, four year liberal arts institution, located in Hanover, New Hampshire. It is about two hours northwest of Boston and about five hours north of New York City. Not far from campus, students are close to skiing, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking. Founded in 1769, Dartmouth sits on 269 pristine acres, which feature a central green that is surrounded on three sides by academic buildings. Dartmouth College has 34 varsity athletic teams that compete at the NCAA division one level in the Ivy League. Around three-fourths of undergraduates participate in athletics at the college, and about 60% of students volunteer on or off campus.
