Four Ways to Get Your Career Off on the Right Track
January 28, 2011
Great article over at Young & Successful about what young professionals should do in order to maximize their chances of being successful when they start a new job:
- Look the part by dressing for success. If your manager wears a suit and you want to manage, wear a suit.
- Present your ideas articulately and with command but always remember to listen.
- Look the part by paying attention to your non-verbal cues such as posture, how you shake hands, keeping your office space neat, etc. If you look like you’re disorganized, your chances of being promoted will plummet.
- Become the go-to contact for an area of expertise which is in high demand in your organization. Make sure that it is an area in which you are competent, have interest, and value.
