CEO’s Who Use Twitter
I’m often asked questions about Twitter by those who are considering using it to find a job, find candidates, or some other good purpose. I’ve been using Twitter for over a year — just before it really exploded in popularity — and am primarily responsible for maintaining our two accounts:
- Twitter.com/StevenRothberg – This is my personal account and I use it to post some personal but mostly work-related tweets. Most of the tweets are links to career-related articles running on CollegeRecruiter.com or other sites. As of today, I have about 17,000 followers and typically add hundreds of new followers a day.
- Twitter.com/EntryLevelJob – This is the account we use to post links to a sampling of the newest job postings and other content running on CollegeRecruiter.com and is primarily targeted at job seekers. As of today, we have about 26,000 followers to this account and typically add hundreds of new followers a day.
Whether you decide to follow one or both of our accounts, chances are that you’ll benefit from following the tweets from Chief Executive Officers at other organizations for CEO’s are able to provide insight into the strategies of their organizations that less senior people simply can’t. If you want to work for an organization, find the top people at that organization who are tweeting, follow them, and read their tweets. If you want to hire people, see if they’re tweeting, follow them, and read their tweets. It is amazing how much insight you can gain by reading the regular writings of that person.
There are a number of sites which provide a list of CEO’s who are active Twitter users, including http://www.twibes.com/ceo/twitter-list, http://wefollow.com/twitter/ceo, http://exectweets.com, and http://listorious.com/Scobleizer/tech-company-executives. As the CEO of job board CollegeRecruiter.com, I’m honored to be on each of those lists. Another good list is http://mariosundar.wordpress.com/2009/12/08/top-20-ceos-who-twittered-in-2009.
