Baton Rouge, the state capital of Louisiana, is where you will find Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College (formerly Louisiana State University). It is 80 miles from New Orleans, and Baton Rouge offers a semi-tropical climate for outdoor activities. LSU has more than 2,000 acres, bordering west near the Mississippi River. The campus has approximately 250 primary buildings; many of them are listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and reflect the style of the 16th century Northern Italian Renaissance Era. It also features more than 50 different types of trees, which line the campus. LSU enrolls over 23,000 undergraduates, coming from 110 countries.

Automatic admission into Louisiana State University requires students to have made ACT scores of 22, and have GPAs in high school of 3.0. According to Associate Director, Mandy Hoffman, students must complete applications for admission into LSU, applications to be considered for entering freshmen scholarships, and applications to be considered for entry into LSU’s Honors College. There are more than 235 academic fields of study and 10 senior colleges, as well as 129 graduate and professional programs; instructional programs include 71 bachelor’s, 75 master’s, and 54 doctoral degrees. Some of the most popular programs where students want to find entry level jobs are accounting, biological sciences, engineering, English, kinesiology, and mass communication. LSU is one of a few schools in the U.S. to have an undergraduate degree in political science. LSU’s School of Art and Design gives students and faculty opportunities to work with blueprints for redevelopment, design schoolyards, and build homes in New Orleans. Full-time faculty members represent 88% of all faculty at LSU, with 66% being tenured and 85% holding their PhDs or terminal degrees.
Louisiana State University’s athletic teams compete in the NCAA and the Southeastern Conference. The school has one of the most successful athletic programs, having won 45 national championships in nine different sports and 113 Southeastern Conference titles. There are 17 residence halls, with architectural styles available to students, ranging from renaissance to modern. In addition, four apartment housing complexes are on campus for upperclassmen, graduate students, and students with families. Students can also take part in the 300 organizations offered at LSU.
