What it is like to attend Lock Haven University
Just a few hours away from Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and New York City, nestled in the mountains of northern central Pennsylvania, in the city of Lock Haven, is Lock Haven University (formerly Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania). The 160 acre campus is a ten minute walk from a small downtown area, or students can catch rides on the Lock Haven University truck. LHU enrolls approximately 4,600 students and has a strong diversity component, particularly in international education, with partnerships in 30 countries, according to the school’s President, Keith Miller.
The Assistant Director of Admissions at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, Michael Hall, says the school looks at three factors for admission: high school curriculum, grades, and SAT/ACT scores, but most importantly wants students to be motivated. LHU offers more than 60 undergraduate programs; some of the most popular programs where students want to find entry level jobs are education, business administration, criminal justice, psychology, and health sciences. Health sciences is one of the most popular majors, with five different tracks of study. Students can work in the anatomy and cadaver laboratories, and even do testing to measure body fat. LHU has 255 instructional faculty members, with 169 holding doctorates, first professional, or other terminal degrees.
Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania’s athletic teams play in NCAA division one and two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conferences. There are seven residence halls and an evergreen commons area. Students can join the gospel choir or the outing club, which are two of over 120 clubs and activities.
