Can Laid-Back People Have Good Leadership Qualities?

The so-called “laid-back” individual can have a unique impact on a variety of situations. In some ways, the laid-back person is intriguing to others because they have a hard time understanding how someone can approach a fast-paced life with such a calm demeanor. The laid-back person is sometimes mistakenly labeled as someone who is apathetic or just plain lazy. In that regard, some people wonder whether a laid-back person can be an effective leader. Here are a few thoughts on the effectiveness of laid-back people in supervisory or leadership positions.
Calm under fire
In an ideal situation the laid-back person would be an effective leader because they would potentially be calm during tense or high stress moments. Every organization goes through some sort of crisis and when difficulties occur, people look to the leaders for guidance on how to handle the situation. If the leader is as tense and rattled as all the employees, then they won’t be able to help people navigate their way through a difficult situation.
