140 Bite-Sized Ideas for Managing Millennials

Alexandra Levit photoOne of the country’s foremost experts on workplace challenges, including how to recruit and manage Gen Y (also known as the Millennials), is Alexandra Levit. I first encountered her fine work in the Wall Street Journal and since that time have had the good fortune to read hundreds and perhaps thousands of her articles, blogs, and tweets.
Alexandra recently added to her publishing arsenal with a new book, #MILLENNIALtweet. The book, as the title of this blog suggests, contains 140 bite-sized ideas for managing members of Gen Y / Millennials. As all avid users of Twitter will recognize, the 140 idea is not random. Rather, it is equal to the number of characters you’re allowed in each of your Twitter postings (also known as tweets).

Rather than bore you to tears with a summary of the book or my analysis, this book best speaks for itself. A sampling:
26 – Millennials are looking for heroes at work, including executives and managers who inspire them to do their best and make a difference.
89 – Teach them how to adapt to the workplace culture. Educate them on the ins and outs of your business (written and unwritten rules, etc.).
117 – Recruit your most talented Millennials to serve as mentors for new college hires.
135 – Remember that online communication should be a dialogue, not a monologue. You can’t control every word, and that’s okay.
#MILLENNIALtweet is available on-line as a paperback or ebook. Pick up a copy. You’ll love it.
