A Word of Encouragement

May 2, 2006

I know it’s so easy to get depessed after not finding a job after graduation. I graduated last December and I still haven’t found a job in my field. I’ve tried looking everywhere, my local career link, the newspaper, magazines, the internet, and even my career services department at my college, and still really no leads into something hopeful. I’m also anxious because my student loans are due in about two months and I don’t have a full time, steady job. Although, I’m trying to stay positive. I’ve been applying to companies that aren’t even hiring and to places that have just have a little bit to do with my degree. My advice is: keep searching. Send follow up letters to the companies that you applied to and the ones that you had interviews at. Call the companies often to let them know that you are still interested in the position and give them a brief summary of your skills and why you would be perfect for the job. Even if you find a job that isn’t quite what you hoped for or is something that isn’t quite what you wanted, try applying to it anyway. Maybe that position will be the job you need to “get your foot in the door”. And most of all, you’re not alone. Like myself and so many others, we are experiencing the same thing. I keep telling myself that I haven’t been hired for any of the jobs I applied to because it’s just not the right one for me, but it’s coming. I’m hoping that by being positive, I will get a positive outcome with future job prospects. I hope this helps all of you.
