Minneapolis, Minnesota — January 28, 2005 – The trend toward a more educated workforce is alive and well. Many college and university students and recent graduates who are actively seeking employment are also seeking information about how to continue their education. Those with associate degrees from two year schools are looking at bachelor’s degrees from four year schools and those with bachelor’s degrees are looking to trade up even further by obtaining a master’s degree.

“Since we launched in 1996, we’ve always had at least some information on our site about continuing education opportunities,” said Steven Rothberg, President and Founder of Internet career site CollegeRecruiter.com. “But 18 months ago we saw a significant increase in the number of requests for more and better targeted information about continuing education options.” After the School Finder section of CollegeRecruiter.com was enhanced, the number of requests jumped from a handful per month to a handful per day, an increase of about 3,000 percent. In December 2004, CollegeRecruiter.com began to market its School Finder separately, both to existing users and to new users. According to Rothberg, “CollegeRecruiter.com is now delivering information about continuing education opportunities to about 50 candidates per day, an increase of about 30,000 percent in just 18 months!”

Rothberg believes that the trend toward more education is driven largely by economics. “Those with degrees earn more than those without degrees, and those with higher degrees earn more than those with lower degrees. Also, as more Americans change careers more often, retraining becomes less of a luxury and more of a necessity. And there’s little doubt that the boom in on-line education opportunities has been incredibly empowering to a huge segment of the population that for geographic, economic or other reasons have not been able to return to school but are now doing so in droves because they’re able to learn at their own speed from the comfort of their living rooms.”
