Job Summary
This position prescribes and administers anesthesia care for the patient through the exercise of professional skills and judgment based on sound scientific knowledge, communication and defined national and organizational standards under medical direction or supervision.

Essential Functions
  • Conducts patient preanesthetic consultation and ensures prep instructions were followed properly.
  • Performs pre-operative health assessments, diagnostic studies, administers preanesthetic medications.
  • Selects and administers anesthetic and related pharmaceutical agents, consistent with patients' needs and procedural requirements.
  • Performs tracheal intubation, extubation and mechanical ventilation.
  • Provides perianesthetic invasive and non-invasive monitoring, recognizing abnormal findings, implementing corrective action, and requesting consultation with appropriately qualified healthcare providers as necessary.
  • Manages patients' fluid, blood, electrolyte and acid-base balance and evaluates patients' response during emergence from anesthesia and implements pharmaceutical and supportive treatment to ensure the adequacy of patient recovery from anesthesia.
  • Documents all aspects of nurse anesthesia care and reporting the patients' status, perianesthetic course, and anticipated problems to an appropriately qualified postanesthetic healthcare provider who assumes the patients'.
  • Initiates and manages pain relief therapy utilizing pharmaceutical agents and anesthetic techniques.
Physical Requirements
This position requires moderate to heavy lifting, pulling, pushing and carrying. Frequent walking, standing, stooping and reaching. Exposure to chemicals, pathogens, blood, body fluids and medical gases. Environment is climate controlled.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program required. NC Registered Nurse licensure required. Masters Degree in nursing required. 3 years CRNA experience required. NCBON Nurse Anesthestist recognition certification required. Obtain and maintain current certification with the NBCRNA and Council on Certification of the AANA required. BLS and ACLS HCP from AHA required.
