Product Engineer

Position Summary

Provide technical support to assigned product lines or projects as well as support product extensions for new applications.  Product lines may include communication outlets/jacks, modular plug connectors, patch panels, faceplates and adapters, enclosures, or cable assemblies.  Utilize existing processes and available resources to bring new products to market and coordinate with team members to resolve issues.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to assigned product line(s) and offer technical assistance as required.
  • Participate in projects with functional and/or cross-functional team members to improve performance, manufacturability, or cost.
  • Evaluate functional and performance requirements of products to ensure initial and ongoing compliance with design objectives and customer/industry requirements.
  • Evaluate, process, and manage to completion all engineering change activity associated with assigned product lines or projects.
  • Participate in peer reviews and brainstorming sessions to identify opportunities for continuous improvement or to mitigate business risks.

 

Educational Requirements

*  Bachelor's degree in  related field such as Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

 

Skills Required

Include demonstrated competencies and physical, mental, & interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to effectively interact with varying cultures a must.
  • Basic awareness of general engineering tools (LEAN or 6-sigma) such as DoE, FMEA, etc. Experience using general engineering tools a plus.
  • Basic awareness of CAD engineering tools (AutoCad, ProEngineer/Creo, SolidWorks, etc.) and related analytical tools. Experience using CAD engineering tools a plus.
  • Ability to resolve defined problems using standard practices and procedures with direction/supervision.
  • Self-starter that requires general supervision by manager or technical mentor, have solid planning skills, and can deal with and balance multiple and competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Physical Requirements

         *  Sitting and working at a computer for extended periods of time.
