RFIC Design Engineer

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Designs, develops, modifies and evaluates electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for electronic equipment and other hardware systems. Determines design approaches and parameters. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. May also review vendor capability to support product development.

 

Job Description

 The RFIC Design engineer will be responsible for:
-Designing LNAs and gain blocks on various semiconductors technologies such SOI, SiGe or GaAs
-Designing RF switches on SOI or GaAs
-Designing module and RF filter components that are used as part of the cellular infrastructure product lines

Responsibilities
Planning, design, simulation, verification, and production ramp support of highly integrated, high volume RFIC and Module products for high-growth, fast-paced, infrastructure markets. Knowledge on filter, RF switch design and RF systems is a plus. The candidate will face challenging tasks in order to meet critical performance parameters.

 

Requirements:

 

Education & Experience:
-BSEE and at least 5 years relevant experience in IC Design of RF amplifiers and switches on Silicon and GaAs based processes

Design skills:
-Demonstrated RF IC design experience using Silicon On Insulator (SOI), SiGe, or GaAs pHEMT including LNAs and Multi-Throw RF Switches, Digital Step Attenuators (DSA) or High Power Switches for handset or infrastructure cellular or WLAN application.
-Strong knowledge of SOI CMOS and SiGe bipolar or GaAs pHEMT processes
-Experience in designing discrete filter components on IPD process or filter module with laminate or ceramic package is a plus
-Knowledgeable of all RF parameters such as insertion loss, attenuation, return loss, harmonics, IMD, P1dB, NF, switching speed, IIP2/3, and ability to design and optimize for each parameter.
-Strong hands on experience of lab equipment including RF signal generators, oscilloscopes, power amplifiers, filters, duplexers, diplexers, spectrum analyzer, power sensors, and Vector Network Analyzers is required.
-Experienced in implementing on-chip ESD protection strategies for HBM/MM/CDM on RFIC and good understanding of IEC ESD requirements.
-Strong understanding and practical expertise of both on-die and in-package coupling mechanisms is required, including modeling and simulation using Electromagnetic simulation tools at the die and package level.
-Demonstrated experience debugging, resolving and applying techniques to mitigate analog/RF/mixed signal noise issues and RF coupling, shielding, and grounding.

Tools:
-Proficient with both Cadence Spectre (RF) or Golden Gate and ADS simulation tools
-Layout experience using the Cadence flow, including LVS and DRC. Ability to work with CAD engineers and provide guidance on RF and analog layouts
-Experience with EM simulation tools such as Momentum, Sonnet, HFSS, or EMX
 

Miscellaneous:

-Understanding and knowledge of RF system and standards like 3GPP, LTE or 802.11x
-Technical communication skills, the candidate must be able to document and present her/his work in a clear and concise way.
-The candidate must be able to work well with other design engineers, test engineers, product engineers, and CAD layout designers. Team player and willingness to work in a fast-pace environment to deliver product on schedule
-The candidate must be autonomous and be able to handle complex projects with minimum guidance
