Non-Volatile Product Engineer - Characterization

Micron is one of the largest memory companies in the world, and the largest in the US. We are currently looking for a suitable candidate to hire into our Product Engineering Characterization team.  The PE characterization engineer is responsible for validating functionality and performance of new non-volatile memory products using automated engineering test equipment. 


As a Product Engineer in Characterization at Micron Technology, Inc., you will be responsible for coordinating the development of characterization code to evaluate established performance metrics of applicable part types, designing and specifying necessary hardware to ensure high fidelity measurements and being a subject matter expert on tester operations, capabilities and limitations as well as a senior technical resource within tester families.


A Characterization Engineer will be capable with the characterization code and measurement techniques used to evaluate device performance, including debugging code, and aiding other engineers in the characterization of applicable part types. In this role, you would also develop in-depth understanding of the details of general device functionality, functionality specific to Micron products, as well as understanding schematics and signal integrity. This position is at Folsom, California. Folsom is situated close to many great sites and attractions in the Northern California area. 



Responsibilities include:


- Prepare for initial silicon

- Work with Product Engineering and Apps Engineering to better understand the specifications of the device

- Work with Product Engineering and Design Engineering to better understand the “weaknesses” of the device – so we can prioritize testing for these areas

- Develop Characterization code to characterize the device

- Develop package part hardware and wafer probe hardware if necessary


- Prepare for post silicon

- Work with PE to ensure wafer/package part availability

- Procure Char Lab equipment

- Debug and identify root cause for failures within either the Characterization test code or hardware


- Ensure that silicon meets product specifications

- Submit package parts for characterization

- Analyze the characterization data and make recommendations for silicon improvement to PE and Design


- Develop, maintain and improve standardized reports for characterization data

- Develop, maintain and improve systems to store and retrieve characterization data


Successful candidates for this position will have:


- Experience in C++ Object Oriented Programming and Perl/Python scripting

- Knowledge of Automated Test Equipment (Nextest, Teradyne, Advantest, Verigy, etc.) would be desirable.

- Understanding of memory architectures

- Knowledge of the following:

            - Test equipment (O-Scope, Logic Analyzers)

            - Semiconductor device physics.

            - CMOS device testing methods.

            - Various memory types.

- Knowledgeable in Signal and Power integrity concepts is a plus. 

- Good communication and organizational skills, and be able to work well in a team environment

- Is a self-starter with strong work ethic

- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

- Effective communication skills in written and spoken English



Bachelor’s Degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering or a related field of study
