In the Urethanes Research and Development group, the laboratory technician participates in the development of new polyurethane products including elastomers and foams. The laboratory technician works in the laboratory, performs complex tasks accurately, and then records the results. These tasks include the following.

>Prepare samples of prototype products at laboratory or at pilot scale, and do so independently.

>Cast or apply the product samples to make realistic parts for testing, and do so independently.

>Independently perform tests on prototype parts using agreed-upon test procedures, and record the results.

>Is able to run and maintain equipment for preparing, applying, and testing products.

> Possess an aptitude for observing, making suggestions and timely communication of results, issues, concerns, and innovative ideas

>Keeps a strong work pace over time, effectively completing work objectives at a satisfactory level according to current job level expectations

>Routinely interacts effectively within and outside the team/work group to accomplish goals, resolves conflict, assists others, etc

> Follow record keeping practices in notebooks and in databases

> Collaborate with other group members

> Resolve minor problems and adapt test methods to meet unique requirements.

> Demonstrate maturity and cooperation as a member of project team

> Support integrity of quality system with adherence to test methods, calibration and record-keeping procedures

> Work safely, following all safety rules and keeping a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

>> BS in Chemistry or related field with no experience OR Associates Degree in chemical or medical technology (or similar) with at least 2 years experience.

>>This job works with polyurethane products. Previous experience with polyurethane products is desirable. Experience with related products, such as adhesives, coatings, plastics processing or lubricants, is also desirable.

>>Experience with spray foam or spray coatings is highly desirable.

>> Have a strong work ethic and self-motivation. Have a high sense of urgency.

>> Be flexible with the ability to adapt to change on day-to-day basis for this dynamic fast paced working environment.

>> Has the highest standards of job safety and teamwork

>> Understand and be concerned with experimental reproducibility and repeatability.

>> Be able to make detailed observations and provide accurate documentation in a timely manner.

>> Knowledge of math, science, simple spreadsheet programs, and basic Windows computer operation is required.

>> Effective oral and written communication including following of oral or written instructions

>> Physical requirements: ability to lift up to 40 pounds; Frequent standing, sitting and walking.
