Oregon Tech - OMIC Plant Operations Manager

Oregon Tech is seeking applicants for the OMIC Plant Operations Manager position in the Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center (OMIC) R&D. This is a 12-month, full-time position located on the Scappoose, Oregon site. The Plant Operations Manager supports applied manufacturing research by organizing, directing and supervising the optimum day-to-day operations of the manufacturing plant. Responsibilities encompass process design, machine tool operation and safety, and production floor industrial hygiene. Responsibilities also include coordinating plant activities, overseeing the activities of research and production personnel to ensure efficient and safe work operations, and the development and implementation of action plans for achieving research and production targets. Required: Bachelor's degree in Applied Science, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering or relevant field; five (5) years of plant/general management experience in a manufacturing environment; substantial machine and production line experience; knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources); knowledge of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory and stewardship processes; familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants; ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to lead root cause analysis investigations; ability to explain training material to operating staff; aptitude for equipment operation and troubleshooting; excellent communication skills; excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, the Internet, as well as online calendaring and email; and ability to lift, carry, push, and pull over 50 pounds. Preferred: Master's degree in in Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or in a relevant field; six (6) or more years of plant/general management experience in a manufacturing environment; Project Management Professional Certification (e.g. CAPM, PMI-PBA, PMI-ACP, PMI-SP, etc.); Machinist Certificate for the operation of CNC machines and related equipment or similar; training or background in lean manufacturing and 5S; proven ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high-level and sensitive interpersonal situations involving diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems; demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
