SAIC is looking for experienced candidates to provide Software Engineering expertise to support the U.S. Air Force in the development of new methodologies and approaches for rapidly creating and delivering capabilities for their suite of applications that provide strategic deterrence planning, nuclear targeting, conventional kinetic and non-kinetic planning, collaborative planning and situational awareness. These new approaches will leverage agile development, and will include implementation of DevOps tools (CI/CD, automated testing, etc.) and identification and creation of containerized micro-services. This leading edge opportunity will pave the way for future development and maintenance activities at USSTRATCOM.


The Software Architect will oversee the technical team, including developers, testers, cybersecurity personnel and will provide the vision and direction for the effort to establish an agile framework such as SAFe, and install and configure tools that enable DevOps, including a CI/CD toolchain. The software architect will also lead the effort to refactor and/or re-architect existing applications from a monolithic architecture, transforming them using an event-driven architecture (EDA) design paradigm, into a Microservices Architecture (MSA). In this role, the Software Architect will report to the project manager and will work with the program office’s engineering team, USSTRATCOM’s engineering team and support contractors to pilot Agile DevOps for building, maintaining and operating the infrastructure.

The Software Architect will provide technical leadership for software engineers using Agile programming and DevOps methods to modify existing applications and develop new applications. They will also provide direction to the rest of the technical team including testers, cybersecurity personnel and subject matter experts throughout the software development process. They perform constant communication to obtain customer concurrence on priorities for resolving the backlog of new features, the allocation of issues to individual sprints, and the definition of sprint success.

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and fourteen (14) years or more experience; Masters and twelve (12) years or more experience; PhD or JD and nine (9) years or more experience

Agile scrum methods and tools

DevOps methods and tools (e.g. Jenkins, Maven, ANT)

Knowledge of Microservices

Software containers (e.g. RedHat OpenShift)



Strong interpersonal and communication skills


BA/BS engineering or related IT, Software Engineering, or STEM degree

14+ years of experience in developing data intensive applications, preferably command and control applications

14+ years of experience with applications that involved managing large volumes of disparate data, including data virtualization and data federation

7+ years of experience with Agile development tools and methodologies

7+ years of experience leading teams to develop complex IT systems
