Job Summary/Purpose:

Provide system protection and control design services for transmission and distribution substations throughout the Entergy system. Primary duties include project development, cost estimating, and preparation of relay setting for construction packages.  Other duties include internal and external standards support and development. Position involves working in a team oriented, strong matrix environment with all facets of the transmission business and clients, including planning, retail, and third parties working in Entergy's service area..

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop relay settings for substation protective relays.  This includes performing fault studies and developing relay settings for transmission protection equipment related to capital projects and asset maintenance projects.
  • Support and participate in project scoping activities for substation projects
  • Oversee, review and approve settings developed by professional consultant engineers. This includes awarding projects to contractors and reviewing  invoices
  • Support protection standard development and implementation as required
  • Provide technical support and expertise in response to operational requests from field personnel
  • Model power systems using various software applications
  • Lead better application development geared toward fault studies and relay settings
  • Support project schedules and processes by using activity tracking applications such as Primavera
  • Lead activities pertaining to SERC/NERC standards compliance and other utility relations as required
  • Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary under


  • Required qualifications:

    * Minimum BS Engineering Degree; Electrical Engineer or Computer Engineer Preferred.

    * Thorough understanding of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area

    * Understanding of Protective system, SCADA, IEC 61850, IEEE Protection Standards and power industry business are preferred

    * Familiarity of protective relay settings/testing software and tools are desired

    * Demonstrates good engineering judgment

    * Strong engineering analysis and problem solving skills as required by the specific job

    Professional Engineering license desired

  • Engineer I - 0 to 2 years experience in an engineering discipline

  • Engineer II - 2+ years experience in an engineering discipline

    Engineer III - 4+ years experience in an engineering discipline.

    Engineer Sr - 6+ years experience in an engineering discipline
