Electrical Engineer Job Description
SUMMARY
Research, plans, designs, and administers electrical systems for building projects by performing
the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may
be assigned. Other duties contained in subordinate job descriptions may also be required from time to
time to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this job.
- Consults with client to determine functional requirements and spatial constraints of new structure or renovation, and prepares information regarding electrical design, specifications, materials, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time.
- Researches and analyzes data such as customer design program, specifications, and related information to determine feasibility of particular electrical designs or applications.
- Plans layout of engineering elements, develops a unified design, and integrates the design into project for client review and approval.
- Designs electrical systems for building projects such as instrumentation, controls, lighting, power, fire alarm and detection, audio visual, telecom and data, and other electrical, electronic, or electrical transformation systems.
- Prepares scale drawings, details and specifications (contract documents) of electrical systems for bidding and construction.
- Represents or assists client in obtaining bids and awarding construction contracts.
- Administers construction contracts and conducts periodic on-site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with construction documents.
- Reviews submittals, product data, operating and maintenance manuals, test and balance reports, studies, and reports.
- Prepares project designs and plans using computer assisted design software and equipment.
- Directs activities of workers engaged in preparing drawings and specification documents.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master's degree (M.A.) in engineering or equivalent; or two to eight years related experience and/or
training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and
legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory
agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for
publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information
to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations,
and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution,
determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling
theory, and factor analysis.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to
interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with
several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Professional Engineer's (PE) license, preferred. Engineering Intern (EI) or Engineering In
Training (EIT) certification.
Technology Requirements:
Microsoft Office; Revit and AutoCAD; and other miscellaneous
vendor equipment selection and design programs.
