Job Description:

Trading Compliance initiatives:

Liaise with global compliance team to monitor compliance with US and international commodity market regulations, including CFTC, FERC, CME/NYMEX, and ICE.

Perform transaction and business communications monitoring activities related to Gunvor’s activities in the physical and derivative commodity markets.

Perform vessel compliance vetting for vessels chartered (spot and term) and operated by Gunvor USA LLC and other Gunvor trading affiliates.

Monitor the U.S. and Calgary offices’ compliance with internal policies and requirements.

Assist with internal investigations and audits and respond to regulatory requests (Exchanges, CFTC, FERC…etc.) as required.

Work with IT and global Compliance teams to implement new software required for business communications and transaction monitoring and surveillance.

Work with the business and functions to review new transactions, products, and business development initiatives to identify potential compliance impacts and advise on compliance risk mitigation.

Liaise with external counsel and outside consulting firms as required.

Represent Gunvor Trading Compliance at external industry events or conferences as required.

Corporate and regulatory compliance initiatives:

Manage other compliance reporting obligations including those required by U.S. Customs, EIA, NEB, DOE, etc.

Monitor international trade sanctions (OFAC, EU, UK) and provide guidance to the business and support functions while maintaining oversight to ensure compliance with trade sanctions regimes.

Maintain awareness of new exchange (ICE & CME) and federal (CFTC, FERC & DOJ) rules and regulations, advise the business, and work with other functions to implement changes within Gunvor’s production environment as necessary.

Assist in the development and implementation of new Compliance policies and procedures to benefit the business and Gunvor Group at large.

EPA and State Carbon Initiative Compliance

As necessary, assist with information collection and reporting related to EPA Parts 79, 80, and 90 and 1090 for Gunvor’s refined products and renewables trading desks.

Assist with monthly reviews of imports and blending volumes for EPA tracking purposes.

Liaise with external counsel and subject matter experts in the field of environmental regulations to discuss current business activities and confirm new requirements and regulations for Gunvor USA LLC.

Experience and Education Profile: 

Along with being personable and professional, this person must also have the following qualifications:

Undergraduate degree required from an accredited university. Experience of 5-7 years in trading compliance, risk and analytics, IT, finance or operations in the energy trading or transportation industry. Expertise derived from working in a commodity trading office environment and in dealing directly with trading, operations, and other functions. Very detail oriented and proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially MS Word and Excel. A solid understanding of physical energy commodity and derivatives markets and products. Strong knowledge of relevant exchange and federal rules including the CFTC CEA and Dodd Frank Act. Knowledge of or limited experience with European compliance regulations including MAR, REMIT, MiFID II and EMIR. Knowledge of U.S. EPA regulations (RFS/RVO) and products (RINs, Benzene and Sulphur Credits). Acumen in presenting results and recommendations to front office and executive management teams. A proactive approach to addressing potential or existing issues or errors. Well organized and efficient with expertise to properly allocate time to various compliance initiatives. Ability to have difficult conversations and deal with critical, urgent situations in a tactful manner. Willing to travel as needed with the ability to be in the Houston office four days a week.
