Health Information Management Coder - Inpatient/Outpatient Behavioral Health Medical Records Coder Ridgeview Institute is a part of a leading behavioral healthcare network in Georgia; we provide comprehensive care within a safe, structured, and highly supportive environment. The Medical Coder is responsible for the accurate abstracting of inpatient and outpatient Behavioral Health patient data into the computerized data base system in accordance with current principles of diagnosis and clinical coding guidelines. Requires skill in the sequencing of diagnosis/procedures to optimize reimbursement. Ensure that records are coded in an accurate and timely manner. The coder monitors the unbilled report, maintains compliance within the established turnaround time, and resolves technical coding and sequencing problems as appropriate. The Medical Coder manages the flow of patient information related to treatment, payment, and organizational needs assists the Director of HIM with daily activities of the department, demonstrates the ability to process requests for information, and maintains and filing of medical records. Obtain acceptable productivity/quality rates as defined per coding policy Query physicians when code assignments are not straightforward, or documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes Maintain knowledge of, complies with, and keep abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements Conduct chart audits for physician documentation requirements & internal coding; provide associate/physician & education as appropriate Abide by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and adheres to official coding guidelines Education: Required: Associate degree, with a coding certification as an RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCA. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree, with a coding certification as an RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCA. Maintain education and development appropriate for the position. Must demonstrate a level of knowledge and understanding of ICD and CPT coding principles as recommended by the American Health Information Management Association coding competencies, Experience: A minimum of Two (2) years experience of previous hospital experience as a Coder. Preferred: One (1) year of experience as a Coder in a behavioral health setting. Additional Requirements: Successful completion of CPR/ First Aid certification and CPI training to within 90 days of employment before assisting with restraining procedures. May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours. Must be able to meet our Covid 19 vaccination requirements.
