Position Summary:

The Progressive Care Unit is a 35 bed, high acuity, fast paced Telemetry unit that demands a very high level of critical thinking, team work and organization. The cardiovascular program is high volume in both open and hybrid procedures. The RNs function with a high degree of autonomy and deliver exceptional standards of care, producing some of the best clinical outcomes in the state. Mercy General made the 35 top hospitals for cardiac surgery and ranked 3rd in the state of California, HealthGrades (2022).

Many registered nurses are attracted to our unit for a cutting edge and a high patient care experience. Besides developing the skill set to manage very acute and complex cardiovascular patients, you will also experience direct care with our Coronary Artery bypass graft (CABG), Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) and thoracoabdominal aneurysm repair (TAAA) patients. We also specialize in the heart failure community leading us to managing our implantable mechanical circulatory device such as the Left Ventricular Assistive Device (LVAD).

Minimum Qualifications:

* Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Nursing required;
* Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred

* 0-12 months of professional nursing (RN) experience
* Active License as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State in which s/he will be practicing or the state of primary residency if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state
* BLS certification - American Heart Association
* Additional certifications may be required based on population(s) served and services provided
* Ability to:
* Deliver excellence in patient care through assessing, formulating nursing diagnoses and establishing goals, planning and implementing intervention, and evaluating patient care outcomes.
* Read, analyze, and interpret hospital policies and procedures, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
* Write reports and procedures, and document in the medical record.
* Effectively present information and respond to questions from co-workers, managers, patients, physicians, family members and the general public.
* Calculate figures and amounts such as weights, dosages, flow rates, proportions, percentages and volume.
* Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
* Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
* Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
* Critically think and problem solve.
* Read, write and speak English.
* Must be able to complete entire program with a perfect attendance record
* Must be able to work 3 days per week after completing first 12 weeks
* Must be able to work and train on either night or day shifts including holidays
* Must agree to terms and conditions of the program
