The Certified Medical Coder is responsible for reviewing a patient's medical records after a visit and translating the information into codes that insurers use to process claims from patients. Their duties include confirming treatments with medical staff, identifying missing information, and assisting billing personnel with submissions to insurers for reimbursement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* High School diploma. Associates or 4-year college degree preferred.
* Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through AAPC required.
* Two (2) years related coding experience, preferably with an FQHC.
* Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Knowledge of, regulatory and policy compliance issues regarding medical coding/billing and documentation.
* Proficient in the requirements of the industry regarding Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care Regulations, the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-CM/PCS), and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding systems.
* Maintain quality and productivity standards established for the department and demonstrate proficiency in family practice, pediatrics, and behavioral health.
* Demonstrated good judgment.
* Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) system with eCW, preferred.
* Proficient in all Microsoft Office Applications.
* Must be well organized, attentive to detail, flexible, and able to multitask between competing priorities.
* Must be a team player with the ability to work independently, as well.
* Working on-site is an essential duty for the job.
