Department Overview

The Mechanical Systems, Externals and Nacelles (MSEN) engineering team has an entry-level Opportunity for an Engineer to perform fluid-thermal analysis of gas turbine bearing compartments, gearbox and oil/air service tubes/ducts for commercial and military aircraft applications.

Key Responsibilities

* Perform high quality physics-based analysis working within a fluid-thermal team
* Collaborate with other design/analytical disciplines and Project Engineers

Basic Qualifications

* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
* Fluent in English (verbal/written)
* Minimum GPA of 3.0
* US citizenship required due to government contracts

Preferred Qualifications

* A solid understanding of fluid-flow and heat transfer processes as demonstrated through coursework like, incompressible flows, compressible flows, thermodynamics, thermal engineering, laminar/turbulent flows, etc. Familiarity with multi-phase flows is a plus.
* A good understanding of conductive, convective, and radiative modes of heat transfer and methods to analytically model them.
* Familiarity with any numerical modeling tools (commercial or other) to perform heat transfer analysis and/or fluid-flow analysis as demonstrated by project-work would be a plus
* Effective communication skills to convey progress, problems, and next steps to peers and those in the leadership team
* Knowledge of commercial software like ANSYS-Mechanical, ANSYS-Fluent, Siemens-STAR CCM+, COMSOL, CFX, DYMOLA, etc. to perform heat transfer and/or fluid-flow analysis
* Experience in programming using python, MATLAB, etc.
* Experience with CAD tools like UG, NX, Design Modeler, ANSYS Workbench, Space-claim, etc.
* Knowledge of data-analytics / machine learning methods to investigate real-world data
* Prior experience in aircraft engine design/analysis
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications; PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and OneNote.
* Strong organization and communication skills.
* An active US government security clearance or the ability to obtain one is a plus.
* This position requires 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships).
