Role Overview:

Responsible for the leadership, training, coaching and the oversight of the Windsor Locks Defense Engineering team. Reporting to the Program Chief Engineer in the Defense value stream, this unique role in the Mission Systems/ISRS business unit requires strong technical experience in order to lead up to 15 cross-functional engineers in systems, chemical, mechanical, electrical and project engineering. The defense engineering team supports engineering development programs in fuel cell technology, advanced life support and field support for US Navy and commercial customers. Typical design/development projects include CO2 remediation systems, oxygen generation systems and the applications of fuel cells for power generation in underwater vehicles. Customers include the US Navy and other commercial customers.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated the completion of at least one complex development program through customer qualification including managing systems requirements and design reviews.

Applicants will have strong knowledge of and experience with Maritime, Aerospace, and/or Defense related systems and associated engineering processes. The incumbent will have proven supervisory skills including the promotion of ethical behavior. It is expected that candidates have a history of being self-motivated and possessing the ability to set individual as well as team priorities and to accomplish established goals within a matrixed team environment. Further, candidates need to show that they have effectively led people toward common, aligned goals within a program or organization by identifying and eliminating barriers to enable team's success.

Tasks assignments include:

* Lead engineering development plans in support of CMS-compliant proposals.
* Assist in resolving daily engineering issues in the product development environment
* Acquire and develop engineering talent through recruiting, hiring, and management processes
* Provide quarterly performance appraisals of associates Develop career paths for team members

Level of Responsibility:

* Supervisory responsibility for up to 15 engineers
* Prepare, monitor, and be responsible for proper program staffing, process performance metrics and or business/operational results
* Demonstrate alignment with value stream leadership for day-to-day priorities in the business unit
* Lead and or support failure/mishap investigations to positive conclusion
* Plan for 20% travel to customers, suppliers and other Collins Aerospace sites

Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR
* Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years' experience OR
* In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
* Must be a US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

* Preferred educational background/focus in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering
* Previous Engineering experience preferred
* Previous knowledge and/or experience with the U.S. Navy
* Previous Submarine or Spacecraft experience
* Ability to handle real-time problem solving
