General Summary:

Qualcomm's Power Management Systems team leads the industry in the system architecture and validation of high-performance Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMICs) and Power Management Units (PMUs) embedded in our chipsets for smartphones, tablets, notebooks, wearables and a variety of cutting-edge consumer electronics.

We are looking for PMIC Systems and Validation engineers with experience in Li-ion Battery Management and Gauging. Battery Gauging typically consists of battery charging modes, ADCs, Battery state-of-charge (SOC) estimation algorithms such as Coulomb Counting, Voltage based, Kalman Filters etc. Depending on your experience level and area of technical expertise you will participate in system definition, development and validation of Li-ion Battery Gauging solutions while partnering with other Qualcomm engineering teams like Analog, Digital and Mixed-Signal design, Software and Customers in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of mobile phone or similar product experience in power systems, power grid analysis and design, hardware or PMIC transistor level design or design/development of design tools and test automation tools and 4+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

OR

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

OR

PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

* 5+ years of academic or professional experience using one or more of the following: IC design tools, PCB design tools, SPICE, MATLAB, Verilog/VHDL, C, Python.

Preferred Qualifications:

* 6+ years of mobile phone or similar product experience in power systems, power grid analysis and design, hardware or PMIC transistor level design or design/development of design tools and test automation tools with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineer.
* 3+ years of mobile phone or similar product experience in power systems, power grid analysis and design, hardware or PMIC transistor level design or design/development of design tools and test automation tools with a PhD.
* 6+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: SMPS, LDO, Buck Converters, Boost Converters, Clock system generation and distribution, Battery charging and USB, Wireless battery charger, Battery fuel gauging, Haptics ERM/LRA, Precision references, Mobile phone hardware, PWB design, Chipset infrastructure and digital interfaces.
* 1+ year in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports (only applies to positions with direct reports).
* 1+ year of experience working in a large matrixed organization.
* 1+ year of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director and above).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

* Uses technical expertise and tools/applications (e.g., SPICE, MATLAB, CADENCE, PYTHON, etc.) to execute and debug advanced system design of hardware and firmware of a complex chipset and/or module and creates design specifications and requirements.
* Owns an entire system of chipset design; serves as project lead of PCB schematics and design layouts; educates team on cross system components; assists other team members.
* Reviews complex tests from more junior team members and completes own tests to ensure that bugs are fully understood and analyzed.
* Evaluates complex design features to identify potential flaws, compatibility issues, and/or compliance issues; advises less experienced engineers on design evaluations.
* Documents complex details about materials, components, data, and functionality for a PMIC while being mindful of potential compatibility, safety, and compliance issues; assists less experienced engineers with their documentation.
* Displays deep knowledge in a specific area; acquires advanced knowledge of industry trends, competitor products, and advances in the Power Management field from publicly available information; shares knowledge with others on team and helps less experienced engineers understand and apply advanced concepts.
* Contributes to conversations to generate new ideas for next generation initiatives; provides recommendations for new directions to explore.

Level of Responsibility:

* Working independently with little supervision.
* Providing some supervision/guidance to others.
* Making decisions that are moderate in impact; errors may have relatively minor financial impact or effect on projects, operations, or customer relationships; errors may require involvement beyond immediate work group to correct.
* Using verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question. May require basic negotiation and influence, cooperation, tact, and diplomacy, etc.
* Working within prescribed budget and resources.
* Completing most tasks with multiple steps which can be performed in various orders; some planning and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively; mistakes may result in some rework.
* Exercising creativity to draft original documents, imagery, or work products within established guidelines.
* Using deductive and inductive problem solving; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or incomplete; intermediate data analysis/interpretation skills may be required.
* May be solicited during strategic planning period.

Pay range:

$133,500.00 - $200,500.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.
