Flaget Memorial Hospital is a 52-bed facility located in Bardstown Kentucky. We provide care for patients from Nelson Hardin Marion Washington Spencer Bullitt and LaRue counties. Founded in 1951 by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Flaget Memorial Hospital is nationally recognized for orthopedic care surgical care and inpatient satisfaction. We offer a complete array of services including cancer care heart care outpatient rehabilitation skilled nursing weight loss surgery pain management general surgery obstetrics and gynecology maternity care and sports medicine. The cancer center is proud to be able to provide full support and cancer care to patients through its medical and radiation oncology programs. **Job Summary / Job Purpose**

The certified surgical assistant employed by the operating room will be assigned to first assist physicians in surgery performing specific tasks under the supervision of the physician.

**Essential Functions**

In addition to fulfilling the requirements of the job description for Surgical Technician job description, this position will include the following:

1. Assists with positioning the patient, provide application of surgical antiseptic solution and draping the patient in a standardized sterile fashion.

2. Under physician supervision, may be expected to open and close surgical sites, harvest grafts, assist with hemostasis, dissect and remove tissue, insert devices, alter tissue and other such procedures as requested.

3. Provide assistance in securing drainage systems to tissue and applying appropriate wound dressing.

4. Under professional supervision, may be expected to perform specific significant tasks, which includes applying and removing splints/casts, placing foley catheters, and administering local anesthesia.

5. Other tasks as assigned.


**Job Requirements / Qualifications**

**Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):**


A graduate of an accredited Operating Room Technician Program. A graduate of a Surgical First Assist Program.


• Certified Surgical Technologist required.

• Certification in Surgical Assisting required.

• Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association required upon hire.

Experience (required and preferred):

• One year of surgical technician experience required.

• One year Surgical Assisting experience preferred.
