About the Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) Organ and Tissue Donation Service (OTDS), and with the statewide OTDS to drive community awareness and engagement of OTDS in SWSLHD. OTDS is a life-saving and life-giving service which can literally change someone’s life through donation.

The Community Development Officer will work with the Donation Specialist nurses and doctors in SWSLHD, and with the statewide OTDS throughout communities in South Western Sydney to increase awareness of Organ and Tissue Donation, increase registrations on the donor registry and provide a vital link between the community and the health service. This position is the only Community Development Officer for OTDS in NSW, which is a demonstration of the commitment of SWSLHD to Organ and Tissue Donation, and will work closely with statewide OTDS health promotion to achieve their outcomes.

The successful applicant will be passionate about health promotion, community education and engagement and Organ and Tissue Donation. The successful applicant will be well supported to engage with the community and clinicians across SWSLHD. 

Where You'll Be Working

Liverpool Hospital is the major health service for South Western Sydney providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of statewide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

What You'll be Doing 
The Community Development Officer will primarily work with Organ and Tissue Donation team to develop and implement evidence-based and/or innovative policy and programs designed to:

Engage communities in Organ and Tissue Donation discussions
Encourage family conversations and registration on the national organ registration database
Promote Organ and Tissue Donation Service across the SWSLHD
