HIGH THROUGHPUT MASS SPECTROMETRY FINGERPRINTING INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.

Drug discovery addresses key unmet medical needs through the identification and validation of therapeutic targets, generation of leads, and optimization of those leads into drug candidates for clinical evaluation. The intern will establish a workflow for high throughput metabolites/lipids fingerprinting of cells using IR-MALDESI-MS system. This includes optimizing existing cell extraction protocol and instrument conditions to maximize analytes coverage, identify suitable normalization methods and establish a data processing workflow.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Learn how to use the high-throughput IR-MALDESI-MS system, perform cell-based assay and high throughput screening
  • Identify the optimal cell extraction and IR-MALDESI conditions for enhanced metabolites/lipids coverage from cultured cells

  • Provide feedback on developing customized MSiReader for high throughput fingerprinting experiments

  • Benchmark performance of different IR-MALDESI systems, evaluate transferability of assays
  • Collaborate with functional and technical experts to facilitate scientific achievement. The ability to work in a team environment is a priority.
  • Publish/present project-related research in peer-reviewed journals or at national conferences
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field

  • Must be enrolled in university during the internship period

  • Familiar with MSiReader
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with lipidomics/metabolomics/machine learning
