Amazing opportunity for an experienced Batch & Furnace Operations Manager to join our primary packaging division at a progressive time.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Lead, you will be accountable for managing batch house, furnace & forehearth operations, ensuring optimisation of processes, safety & environmental standards are met, and glass quality is first class. 

Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Ensuring correct use of safety equipment and that company safety and environment policies and procedures are followed
  • Ensure glass composition is tailored and optimised to meet Forming requirements
  • Ensure glass quality meets customer specification and Visy Glass Quality Standards
  • Ensure all Batch, Furnace & Forehearth equipment operates efficiently and is well maintained
  • Oversee furnace maintenance and ensure repairs are made 
  • Ensure furnaces and Forehearths are maintained to achieve maximum asset life
  • Prepare materials forecasts and ensure that raw materials supplies comply with specification
  • Respond to any breakdowns or failures accordingly to prevent any safety hazard or loss of production
  • Manage energy consumption and implement control measures to meet budget requirements and glass quality standards
  • Manage colour changes to ensure there is no adverse downtime
  • Ensure energy usage is optimised and plans are in place to continuously improve energy management
  • Salaried / Permanent full time
  • 24/7 manufacturing facility - participate in a call out roster for added support
  • What you will bring to the team:


  • Engineering Degree - Preferably Chemical or Mechanical
  • Thorough knowledge and experience managing batch & furnace operations
  • Management of a unionised site
  • Glass or similar largescale batching understanding
  • Well-developed communication and influencing skills
