The Project Specialist will participate in project acquisition and partnership development activities across the ENGIE Distributed Solar and Storage (DSS) portfolio in the United States. This position will provide key expertise to the Business Development team, conducting due diligence on acquisition opportunities, managing co-development partnerships, and providing analysis to inform valuation and transaction structuring for distributed solar and solar + storage projects. Additionally, this role will provide early-stage development support to the DSS Origination team for customer-sited ground-mount projects.

This position can sit in Chicago, IL and will report to the Project Development Senior Advisor. This position is open to a hybrid scheduled of both in-office and work-from-home days.

What you'll do:

* Conduct, organize, and manage due diligence of development-phase project acquisition opportunities. This will include direct review of development entitlements (e.g. permits, site control, interconnection), and coordinating subject matter expert review of technical, legal, policy, and financial subject areas
* Understand and effectively communicate information relating to incentive, community solar, and other program-based offtake opportunities within established and emerging distributed solar and storage markets across the US
* Identify key project and market risks, collaborate with Business Development team on risk mitigation and project valuation
* Direct and collaborate with co-development partners.
* Create preliminary project development budgets and schedules for acquisition opportunities
* Experience with Gantt charts, preferred
* On occasion, visit ground-mount project sites to evaluate site attributes
* Facilitate onboarding of acquired projects to the Project Development and Project Delivery teams
* Support the DSS Origination team's customer-sited ground-mount projects by performing desktop site suitability assessments, creating development budgets, identifying key questions to ask customers, and advising on priority next step development activities
* Support drafting and review of investment committee approvals documents
* Opportunistically source and evaluate project acquisition targets

What you bring:

* Bachelor's Degree in in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Political Science, or a related field preferred
* A minimum of two (2) years' experience of business or project development related experience; preferably in solar and/or battery energy storage
* Conscientious, detail oriented, and highly organized
* Values inclusivity and diversity within a tight-knit team dynamic
* Strong analytical skills enabling review and distillation of large amounts of data.
* Strong MS Excel skills needed to perform due diligence and project valuation activities.
* High degree of critical thinking and problem-solving acumen in order to identify key project risks, questions to pose, and next steps, while leveraging project development experience
* Willingness to challenge assumptions, provide constructive criticism, and drive towards solutions
* Ability to work proactively beyond immediate next steps on a given task or project.
* Demonstrable and practical knowledge of solar and/or storage project development activities, including real estate, zoning and environmental permitting, interconnection, and offtake. Expertise within one or more areas is a plus
* General understanding of renewable energy market trends and the resulting impacts on solar project development
* Results-oriented and motivated professional with the ability to work independently within a large matrixed organization while effectively interfacing with the various cross-functional employee groups
* Ability to thrive in quickly changing environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
* Superior verbal and written communication skills and high level of attention to detail with the ability to present to a wide range of audiences, including ENGIE leadership, third party developers, and potential customers
* A proficiency in MS Office, Google Earth Pro; GIS and CRM

Additional Information/Conditions:

* Must be eligible to work for any U.S. employer without the need for sponsorship now or in the future
* Must be available to travel up to 20% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
* Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
* Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
* Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
* Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
* Ability to travel to conduct site visits
* Ability to sit for long periods of time; most of the work for this position will be at a desk
* Could involve some lifting
