About the role
The newly created position of Legal Counsel reports to the Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs and will play a significant role in advising key business stakeholders on commercial and regulatory matters. 
The Legal Counsel will be responsible for: 
Advising the business on a variety of commercial arrangements across media, technology and sports/racing partnerships
Assisting the legal and compliance function across regulatory and commercial matters, including M&A opportunities
Supporting customer service and operational teams with a variety of legal matters including complaint handling. 
The successful candidate will hold relevant qualifications in law with up to four years post qualified experience and a practicing certificate. Ideally our next team member will have demonstrated experience in private practice or an in-house legal team with a commercially astute mindset in addition to strong legal drafting and negotiating skills. 
The Legal Counsel will be supported as part of a collaborative and high performing team and will also play a key role in building positive workplace relationships across betr and with relevant stakeholders.
Key Duties
Key duties will include: 
Advising on various aspects of Australian advertising and consumer laws
Complaint handling and liaising with regulatory bodies
Managing legal and policy matters across wagering regulations
Reviewing marketing collateral to ensure compliance with laws
Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
Liaising with peak sports and racing bodies
Providing legal training to the business
Providing guidance on privacy laws 
Other ad hoc duties as required.
Key Selection Criteria
Law degree and up to 4 years post qualified experience and a current practising certificate
Experience in private practice or in house legal team with demonstrated ability to provide commercially focused advice
Experience in a regulated industry desired but not necessary 
Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams in varying locations to provide support, advice, and guidance
Ability to navigate a business with a high degree of resilience and commercial and legal acumen
Sharp attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills
Highly motivated with an agile approach that enables you to anticipate opportunities and issues
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills which builds positive working relationships in order to drive engagement, motivate people and influences workplace culture.
Additional information 
This full time and ongoing role will be located in Melbourne, CBD.
The successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with skills and experience.
