Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Assistant Director Policy and Governance on a contract for 12 months with potential extension.

Position Overview

The Australian Climate Service seeks to fill an Assistant Director - Policy and Governance policy role in the Australian Climate Service Canberra Office.

The Australian Climate Service is a virtual service bringing together the expertise of the Bureau of Meteorology, Australian Bureau of Statistics, CSIRO and Geoscience Australia into a single authoritative source of climate and natural disaster risk information. We support the National Emergency Management Agency to make decisions to improve the lives of Australians before, during and after natural hazards.

We are seeking to engage a collaborative, organised and experienced policy professional to assist in the management of enterprise governance including by leading corporate planning and assurance processes and managing secretariat support. Our ideal candidate will be a strong team player and communicator, preferably with experience in similar roles.

Responsibilities - Full Requirements

You will take a leading role in the coordination of strategic decision-making processes and the implementation of decisions, including by:

  • provide expert advice on policy, complex problem solving and issues management relating to the strategic goals of the Australian Climate Service.
  • supervise junior policy officers, take responsibility for the achievements of team outcomes, monitor progress and follow through to deliver quality outcomes.
  • managing the organisation and coordination of meetings and stakeholder engagement activities including Senior Executive Service committees.
  • oversee the drafting and coordination of input and clearance of a wide range of papers including include briefs, plans, reports, meeting records, governance procedures, and communications material.
  • oversee tracking and reporting on committee business and assurance, risk and performance management processes
  • liaise with colleagues across the Australian Climate Service and within stakeholder organisations, including with senior managers.
  • manage administrative processes including procurements:
  • Comply with all Bureau work, health and safety policies and procedures, and take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.
