Responsibilities

The RN Lactation Specialist provides assessment, assistance, and support of infant nutrition, through feeding with breastmilk, working on breastfeeding support, to infants, adult and adolescent parents, and families. The Specialist provides education to staff and physicians, as well as to the community. The Specialist works closely with physicians and staff, and promotes collaboration and communication. The Specialist participates effectively in the daily operations of both inpatient in acute care setting throughout the hospital and with outpatient care.



Qualifications

Education:

As required by licensure. BSN or degree in progress strongly preferred. BSN may be required for specific assignments; experienced RNs without a BSN may be hired based on clinical experience with approval of the site CNO. IBCLC certification required.

Skills:

Demonstrated ability of expert interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community.

Demonstrated ability to teach effectively.

Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.

Preferred IBCLC experience with families and feeding plans.

Three years in acute setting.
