Description

The Summit Daily News, located in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, seeks a reporter to cover the environment and government beats (Breckenridge Town Council and Silverthorne Town Council) in addition to transportation and business.

Here at the Summit Daily News, we punch above our weight, producing award-winning, impactful journalism that seeks to hold authority accountable and strengthen the bonds of our communities.

This is not a position for someone looking to subsidize their powder habit. We are looking for a mature, ambitious reporter who can write about the climate, wildlife, water of the High Country and also ask top community leaders tough questions to act as a watchdog for two towns in Summit County.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Generate seven stories per week.
  • Take photos and videos.
  • Demonstrate effective use of social media tools to source stories and cover trending news.
  • Work with community leaders/figures as well as other newsroom staff.
  • Be flexible in a changing, fast-paced environment.
  • Ensure accuracy, fairness and correct spelling in all reporting.
  • Follow direction and vision of the Summit Daily News editor.
  • Make assigned deadlines without exception.
  • Be a team player and fill in for reporting vacancies as needed.
  • Be ethical within the guidelines set by the editor.

Qualifications:

  • Journalism degree required.
  • One year of newsroom experience preferred.
  • Must be available to work some nights and weekends. This job's schedule is typically Sunday to Thursday each week, and hours are flexible outside of scheduled public meetings.

Pay $22-$24/hour depending on experience. Competitive benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance after 60 days of employment, $500 recreation bonus after 6 months and 401k Plan after 1 year.
