Our Research, Innovation and Enterprise? (RIE) team supports research activity across the University to achieve the aims of our Research & Innovation strategy.
We have a dedicated team assisting academics and research students across the University and we are currently recruiting an External Projects Manager to lead and manage the External Projects Team, ensuring that aspirations for growth in volume, commercial activities and quality and value of research are fully supported.
This is a key role within our Research, Innovation and Enterprise Management team.
You will be in the prime position to use your experience of pre/post award research/commercial administration and project finance costing to lead and manage the External Projects Team, supporting research and commercial funding opportunities (including creation of consultancy and CPD contracts), financial due diligence, costing and pricing using Worktribe (the university’s Research Data Management system).
Your understanding of Full Economic Costing methodology and various research funding mechanisms in the UK will allow you to become a trusted member of the R&I Management team, contributing to the developing RIE strategy for increasing the impact of research and innovation across the University.
You will also have the remit to draw upon all of your experience of working in a Higher Education setting to evaluate University policies and procedures which affect the review, approval and conduct of external projects.
You will have prime responsibility for ensuring all commercial and enterprise bid submissions, supporting evidence, contracts and award details are correctly recorded in Worktribe, demonstrating your high standards of working, as well as compliance with State Aid, simultaneously allowing for accurate reporting both internally and externally.
Furthermore, your expertise and knowledge of best practice will be well received as you suggest and propose any amendments required to existing procedures, seeking approval through the appropriate Committees or alerting the relevant senior management.
You will have the support of 5x External Project Officers and a Contracts Officer to help you achieve this, who you will also have the opportunity to instil your positive values with and ensure that high standards are maintained.
What we will need from you:
- An undergraduate degree or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through experience
- Previous extensive experience of pre/post award research and commercial administration including project finance costing
- Experience of Agresso accounting system
- Extensive knowledge of Financial systems, including preparing financial claims and budgetary financial reports
- Understanding of Full Economic Costing methodology and various research funding mechanisms in the UK
- Ability to manage change and respond positively to new challenges
- Ability to lead a team

Salary: £42,155 - £51,805 per annum (Grade 6)
