Overview

This position is responsible for precepting and educating new grads in the Emergency Room. In addition, this position will provide patient care in a safe and effective manner. Responsibilities include directing PCA activity, synthesizing patient information, assessment of patients, planning of care/intervention, teaching of patients/family, implementation of treatment plan, MD orders, documentation and evaluation. Integration of patient care standards are incorporated into all clinical activities.

Responsibilities

Consistently applies infection control policies/practices. Meets population/age specific competencies. Attends department specific education/training, inservices, and staff meetings. Department specific performance improvement project. Uses the Nursing Process as the framework for management of patient care. Provides preceptorship, education and guidance to New Grad RNs in the Emergency Department. Establishes themselves as role models to the New Grad RNs in the Emergency Department. Assists in the development of the New Grad RNs into experienced and skilled productive members of the patient care team. Provides leadership and clear direction to all members of the healthcare team. Provides for psycho-social, spiritual and cultural needs of the patients, family, and others. Provides for the education of patients, family, and others. Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently provide care in emergency situations. Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently administer medications, intravenous therapy, & basic fluid management. Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently use equipment, supplies, & perform therapeutic/diagnostic interventions. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduate of RN School of Nursing; BSN preferred.

Minimum five years acute care experience, preferable in the Emergency Room.

Familiarity with EMR systems.

Current CA RN license

Current BLS-HCP

Current ACLS

PALS

NIH Certification

Management of Assaultive Behavior

Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred

Emergency Nursing Course preferred
