About the Unit:
The Cardiovascular unit is made up of a 15 bed observation unit (CVI) that is designated to take patients who are pre or post-cardiac intervention from procedures such as percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), cardioversion or generator implants. Additional beds are available for patients who indicate atypical chest pain and require cardiac monitoring. The unit has an additional 12 beds (CVU) which provides intermediate care to cardiac surgery patients directly following open-heart recovery. Nurses care for cardiac surgery patients through the post-op phase until discharge. New graduate nurses welcome.
The Cardiac Nurse assesses and identifies patient needs and implements appropriate interventions for the cardiac patient. The Nurse establishes and maintains a plan for the delivery of nursing care; assures that nursing care interventions and activities are directed to resolve problems; and performs technical aspects of care competently. Cardiac nurses must have strong critical thinking skills. The cardiac nurse acts as a family and patient resource to guide them through all stages of the patient’s cardiac journey.
