Design Engineer - Western Sydney Airport

CPB Contractors in joint venture with Ghella have been selected by the NSW Government to deliver to deliver the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport Station Boxes and Tunnelling Works (WSA-SBT). The project will involve the design and construction of a new metro tunnel around 9.8 kilometres in length between St Marys in the north and the Aerotropolis Core precinct in the south.

The design and construction scope includes the following:

  • two sections of twin running, tunnel boring machines, tunnels with a total combined length of approximately 9.8 km, plus associated portal dive structures and tunnel support activities
  • station box excavations with temporary ground support at St Marys, Orchard Hills, Western Sydney Airport Terminal, Western Sydney Aerotropolis and two intermediate service facilities, one in each of the tunnel sections. 
  • Major works are scheduled to commence in 2022 and continue until 2025.

    Your opportunity

    The Design Engineer will contribute to the Design team’s delivery of robust and cost-effective designs while ensuring that scope, budget and programme are met.

    The key responsibilities of the role include:

    Effectively manage the design stage of works by:

  • Ensuring the design fully complies with the project contract documents;
  • Working within Construction Phase Services Team
  • As Built, Construction RFI, NCR’s, Material approval and change management processes
  • Value engineering consultant designs
  • Promoting and developing improvements to the design
  • Ensuring that safety and constructability is built into the design
  • Develop and deliver against project goals and objectives including:

  • Assisting with the preparation of accurate monthly reports
  • Working with Client to achieve the objectives of project
  • Reporting major design changes to your Manager
  • Ensuring own time is managed effectively to achieve required targets and objectives
  • Assessing Design Change requests (DCR’s)
  • Responding to RFI’s, NCRs Design Change requests
  • Developing alignment between team capability and function’s business objectives
  • Identifying resource and skill gaps and developing strategies to bridge gaps
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements and all relevant Company and Group policies and processes.
  • We are looking for someone with:

  • Senior level management experience within the construction industry.
  • Degree in civil design/engineering, management or similar
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in positions which provided base of technical know how and accountability for results in a similar size business
