**General Summary**

Installs or repairs water, steam, gas or other types of pipe and pipefitting.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**

+ Lay out work and measuring to locate position of pipe from drawings or other written specifications

+ Cut various sizes of pipe to correct lengths with chisel and hammer, oxyacetylene torch or pipe cutting machines

+ Thread pipe with stocks and dies

+ Bend pipe by hand-driven or power-driven machines

+ Assemble pipe with couplings and fastening pipe to hangers

+ Make standard shop computations relating to pressures, flow and size of pipe required

+ Make standard tests to determine whether finished pipes meet specifications

**Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements**

+ Journeyman Pipefitter, required

+ NICET Level II certificiation, required

+ Rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience. Workers primarily engaged in installing and repairing building sanitation or heating systems are excluded

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills

+ Possess a broad knowledge of facility operations and maintenance

+ Experience with a Facility Computerized Maintenance Management System software (CMMS) highly desired.

**Work Environment**

+ Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.

+ Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
