Job Duties:

Perform analyses and studies of transmission network to ensure reliability of the electrical grid to deliver electricity to the ultimate consumer. Analyze steady state reliability performance of the grid and recommend solutions to address any deficiencies. Develop 5 year transmission plan acceptable to the Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) for assigned geographical area considering factors such as load demand, usage predictions, forecasted construction, economic and population growth within the region, and population and demographic changes in simulating the grid operations. Update and maintain transmission system models and databases containing information on system topology, load distribution, and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) contingencies. Apply Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), NERC standards, and RTO rulemaking procedures pertaining to transmission planning. Hybrid work from home policy may apply.


Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in an ABET* accredited electrical engineering program and 3 years of electrical engineer experience which must include:
  • Power system modeling and load flow analysis.
  • Load forecasting, short circuit and fault analysis, grid operations studies, transient stability studies.
  • Using PSS/E and ASPEN OneLiner and applying NERC reliability standards to power system operations and planning.
Alternatively, a master’s degree in an ABET* accredited electrical engineering program and 1 year of electrical engineer experience as specified above is acceptable.

*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Non-ABET accredited degrees in electrical engineering must be accompanied by a Professional Engineers (PE) license from any U.S. state or by a master degree or a PhD from a university with an ABET accredited bachelor degree program in electrical engineering.
