Sitting within our Defence Airframes business line at our Portsmouth manufacturing plant youll do just that. Established in 1990, it is one of our newer locations and with a workforce of around 200 employees.

The site is a leading technology provider for the aerospace, marine and military markets. We supply an extensive range of specialist fuel tanks and flotation systems, as well as engineering expertise and support for fixed and rotary wing aircrafts, land vehicles, missiles, UAVs, torpedoes and marine vessels.

Our customer base includes Airbus, BAE Systems, Bell, Boeing, General Automics, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls Royce, Sikorsky, Saab, MOD.

Job description:

Job Summary

As a Skilled Operative; Painter reporting into one of our Group Leaders, you will be required to carry out paint preparation on a variety of surfaces, applying a collective mix of stain, paint or other materials for decorative or protective purposes to wood, metal or other surfaces of internal or external structures or equipment. Youll determine surface peculiarities, the use and environment of surfaces, and types of paint or stain required for different applications contracts to meet drawing, specification and regulatory requirements.

In addition you will take responsibility for:

  • Adhering to full compliance of the work instructions and/or standard operating procedures; without compromise to their own and colleagues safety
  • Exemplifying a safety-first mind-set and follow all GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards
  • Actively identify safety concerns; making problems immediately known to their Team Leader and raise improvement ideas to solve problems utilising Kaizen policy.
  • Being an active member of the team, promoting collective engagement with each other.
How You'll Contribute

  • Evidence of formal training/qualifications such asapprenticeship/NVQ or C & G qualification for paintor paint treatments qualification for paint or paint treatments.
  • Demonstrable experience in the trade
  • Ability to work as part of a small, close team
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Effective communication
  • Openness to working a variety of shifts
