About the Role

The Medication Aide (MA) provides services to include medication administration and personal care services. Some responsibilities include:

  • Administers and accurately records the administration of medications for residents as prescribed by the physician in accordance with established policies and procedures of NLCS and applicable state/federal regulations
  • Determines and records effectiveness of medications in a timely and accurate manner as required by state and federal regulations
  • Observes, records and reports to the Charge Nurse symptoms and conditions of residents that could be related to medication interactions, adverse drug reactions or medication side effects
  • Monitors medications to ensure adequate accountability measures are taken when medications are ordered, received into the facility, administered and at change of shift as required by policies and procedures of NLCS and applicable state/federal regulations
  • Stores medications in a safe and accurate manner in accordance with established policies and procedures of NLCS and applicable state/federal regulations
  • Routinely inspects, cleans and monitors equipment and supplies to ensure resident safety. Reports any equipment or supply issues to the Charge Nurse for correction or repair
  • Makes walking rounds with previous and oncoming shifts; gives and participates in report Obtains, records and reports vital signs as indicated during the administration of medications Assists the supervising charge nurse in preparing residents and their charts for physician visits

To be successful in this role
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Certification as a C.N.A. or DCA and Medication Aide approved by the Board of Nursing in state of employment
  • Possess knowledge of safe medication administration techniques Experience in a Senior Care setting preferred
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to communicate and work with persons of varying educational and cultural backgrounds
