The Role

The Test Engineer is responsible for organizing and executing prototype battery test campaigns. Includes understanding the test campaign's objectives, determining what data must be collected, selecting appropriate instrumentation, measurement methods, test plan to gather the data, and supervising or performing the test campaign

  • Determine test objectives
  • Formulate test conditions that will fulfill those requirements
  • Design and build specialized equipment or test stands that may include measurements such as temperature gradients, strain, acceleration, differential pressure, voltage, and current.
  • Formulate the test material requirements such as sensors, how to properly install sensors, how to generate test conditions, etc.
  • Understand data collection and custodianship practices
  • Write test procedures and test plans that clearly communicate the necessary steps and objectives of a test
  • Interact with engineers that need the data as well as technicians that will fabricate and carry out testing
  • Document and present results in slides or test reports

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in an automotive, aerospace, or industrial environment (internships, student projects, and professional experience qualify
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering field
  • Understanding of fundamental physics, such as F=MA, V=IR, dimensional analysis, etc. and the ability to apply this to attack an unfamiliar problem
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering concepts like stress and strain
  • Able to create control software for prototypes or test stands that collects data, maintains temperature setpoints, motion control, etc. (LabVIEW, PLC, etc.)
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as Jama
  • Ability to use waterjet, CNC, welding, 3D printing, hand tools, etc. to fabricate and assemble prototypes and test stands.
  • Competent with programs: CANalyzer, BUSMASTER, BMS CREATOR, LabVIEW and/or other DAQ technologies
  • Competent with analysis software such as MATLAB, DIAdem, etc
  • Competent with at least one 3D CAD package, Catia a plus
  • Knowledge of automotive safety standards (i.e. SAE, ISO, FMVSS, UL, UN38.3 etc.) related to EVs and/or heavy vehicles is a plus
