Duties : Work closely with ASSA ABLOY Architectural Door Accessories general managers and business unit teams on creating more cost-effective products. Participate in the development of the product road map and helping determine the path forward for the group. Learn the new product development (NPD) process, move fast and lead projects from inception to launch and use data analytics to develop recommendations. Responsible for analysis of mechanical systems, including analysis for structural, fatigue, thermal, and acoustics. Research and analyze design proposals, specification, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications. Create and execute product test plans, to include alpha, beta, and compliance testing for durability and functionality. Develop design drawings in accordance with applicable standards and tolerances. Work closely with product management, sourcing, outside suppliers on altering existing products to achieve superior cost positions. Perform Value Analysis to determine cost savings opportunities related to existing products. Identify opportunities, design improvements, and implement changes for door opening systems. Work closely with outside suppliers for component selection, manufacturing processes, and assembly methods. Manage a wide range of projects at any point in the development cycle from ideation through manufacturing. Manage project/workstream/team dependencies and risks while optimizing for constraints. Monitor the project status at engineering level.
Requirements : Requires Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study, and 5 years of experience in product design, development and project management as a Mechanical Engineer. Experience specified must include 5 years of experience with each of the following: production processes, quality control, and optimization; and handling multiple functional responsibilities, including program management, supplier and vendor relationships, and supplier quality. Experience specified must also include 3 years of experience with each of the following: addressing production challenges that require innovation and involvement of multiple areas of engineering expertise, including design of experiment and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing); CAD software including at least 1 year of SolidWorks experience; utilizing FMEA and DFMA; and 3D modeling, creating test plans, following design compliance, reducing development and product costs via design and testing, and working with a cross functional team to negotiate pricing with suppliers. Telecommuting permitted up to 1 day per week. Requires up to 20% domestic/international travel to visit vendors sites and our manufacturing sites.
