R&D Engineer II - Ceramics

Essential Functions
  • Performs hands-on testing, characterization, product and process development of materials
  • Develops and executes test methods for applications of formulations and performs analysis on resulting outcomes
  • Applies engineering knowledge to the design and development of current products, with an emphasis on implementing product solutions that are consistent with the optimization of manufacturing quality and product features
  • Utilizes testing tools and equipment such as particle size analyzer, surface area analyzer, TGA/DTA, Tensile Tester, SEM, etc., as well as troubleshoots and maintains equipment
  • Manages workflow and day-to-day operations; train operators; maintain operating procedures
  • Performs data analysis and failure analysis on failed specimens
  • Broad understanding of the entire ceramic component production process from customer to finished component including support necessary to develop long term customer satisfaction
  • Drives the development, implementation, and execution of new processes and/or product development.
  • Effectively manages new product development projects to maximize speed to market, completeness, and accuracy.
  • Collaborates with Production on scale-up and transfer of new products to Manufacturing and Sales.
  • Uses DOE and statistical tools to assist in identifying and resolving root causes of variations in processes; recommends effective solutions to resolve any identified issues. 
  • Partners with appropriate Stakeholders and teams regarding trouble-shooting activities and process improvement projects.
  • Develops and performs methods of testing integrity and reliability of formulations.
  • Partners closely with Product Managers to develop specifications and set project scope.
  • Collaborate and partners company-wide with stakeholders in research, marketing, production, and legal.
  • Engages in process variation analysis, developing solutions, and implementing corrective actions. 
  • Identifies safety, cost, and quality improvement opportunities; develops solutions for effective implementation.
  • Coordinates and conducts trials to evaluate equipment and process performance.
  • Communicates issues and concerns to stakeholders, and provides resolution as necessary. 
  • Performs other related duties and projects as business needs require at the direction of management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Ceramics Engineering, Materials Science or related majors; Ph.D preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
  • Previous experience in ceramics/powder processing required.
  • Previous experience working with alumina, zirconia, and ceramic oxides.
  • Previous experience in an R&D environment preferred.
Salary Range
$99,000.00 - $139,000.00
