NRCA Mechatronics Engineer Contractor


Description of responsibilities:

This person will work on a small team (4-6 engineers) responsible for one aspect of a larger project conducted by a diverse group of about 20 researchers. Over the course of about two years, the same team will take the project through all phases of prototype design, analysis, fabrication, testing, and evaluation. Extensive hands-on experience with mechatronics design, 3D solid modeling, and debugging of complex mechatronic systems are required.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to synthesize practical solutions to challenging problems

  • C programming of real-time control systems

  • Other programming experience (Python, MATLAB, C++, C# preferred)

  • Strong mechanical design skills and design experience

  • Proficient with 3D CAD, GD&T, and FEA (e.g., CATIA. NX, Pro/Engineer)

  • Familiarity with optics, imaging, or photography

  • Significant experience with assembly, debugging, and evaluation of complex systems

  • Excellent laboratory skills, including experiment design, instrumentation, conducting measurements, and post-processing experimental results

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work independently
