The Operations and Engineering Project Associate position at UL is meant to accelerate the development of entry-level talent and produce future leaders capable of meeting the challenges in the broader functions of Business Operations, Engineering & Technology.


Engineer Project Associates would join the Operational Leadership Development Program of UL. This program is designed to accelerate the development of entry-level talent and produces leaders capable of meeting the challenges broader functions of Business Operations, Engineering & Technology. This is a 2 year program consisting of 3 rotations that allow members to build leadership and functional skills through challenging rotational assignments and world-class training.


Job Description


Engineer Project Associate who would join as member of Operational Leadership Development Program will do 3 eight-month rotations in different areas of Business Transformation, developing leadership and functional skills through challenging assignments and world-class training.


Typical rotations include one or more of the following: 

  • Process Improvement /Design /Automation & LEAN principles
  • Digitalization including IT Processes and Systems
  • Business Enablement functions including Business Intelligence, Program Management

Job Responsibilities


During these rotations, members would work on the following job responsibilities,

  • Work on projects that will improve efficiency, improve service levels and lower the cost of operations, in the identified functional areas
  • Assist in implement automations on the processes that would result in greater efficiency
  • Lead the customer satisfaction opportunity process in collaboration with the customer advocacy team; facilitate problem solving
  • Extract data from financial and IT systems and perform financial analysis and provide insights for operational and business improvements
  • Support in developing business cases for investment projects, or to assess the impact of changes to a business processes.
  • Perform other duties as require

Program members will have the opportunity to learn the overall business and the industry /customers we serve. The rotational program is designed to provide a well rounded leadership to take on new challenges across Business Transformation and UL Testing, Inspection and Certification operations. 


The selected candidates will also undergo rigorous training programs to further develop the technical, operational and leadership skills and expected to complete and get certified in the first 2 years, with the successful candidates moving into the permanent roles across UL.

What makes you a great fit:
  • BS/MS degree in electrical, mechanical or industrial engineering are preferred. Computer Engineering or Business Statistics and Economics or Data Science are also a plus
  • Graduating in Spring/ Summer 2022
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA overall in major
  • Prior internship or co-op experience in engineering or operations
  • Analytical approach to problem solving
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Recommended to work out of Chicago office, with opportunity for relocation in the future
