Sr Product Manager, Cell & Gene Therapy

The Life Sciences and Laboratory Products Group (LSLPG) is focused on setting the standards for serving science by providing customers with an innovative and broad life sciences portfolio, a product offering that includes virtually everything needed for the laboratory and a strong presence at bench. Focused on transforming the customer experience through tools and solutions that improve the ease of doing business with us, leveraging the scale of our entire company and investing for growth to meet the needs of the future. LSLPG is developing new reagents and platforms to support the need of the Cell and Gene therapy market- supporting large, small biopharma and academic labs with a full line of products designed to speed clinical research. Analytical characterization of the cells during the cell therapy manufacturing represents a major challenge for the industry and our goal is to embark on that challenge by developing new innovative solutions to address the needs of cell and gene therapy analytical and characterization.

A day in the Life:

  • Lead our new characterization and analytical portfolio for cell and gene therapy through strategy, roadmap development and cross divisional alignment as well as commercial alignment with CGT commercial and marketing teams.

  • Lead and manage the workflow strategy for CGT characterization and analytical companywide to provide value-added growth for CGT Business Unit.

  • Launch workflow strategy of characterization by working intimately with the other divisions and building comprehensive workflow solutions to address the need of CGT market, by acting as a liaison between product managers, sales, market development, R&D, Operations, and Customer Support.

  • Analyze market trends, customer requirements, and competitive strategy, and find opportunities for increasing customer and business value through product differentiation.

  • Create companywide vision and strategy for the cell and gene therapy characterization portfolio.

  • Responsible for revenue growth for the company wide portfolio in conjunction with global marketing and commercial teams.

  • Develop relationships with industry leaders and run strategic collaborations around this portfolio.

  • Develop business cases related to new workflow and products and work closely with adjacent business units to drive execution with the respective product managers from concept through commercialization, including voice of customer research, definition of customer and product requirements and value proposition.

  • Interact with varying levels of internal and external personnel and provide direct customer communication, public presentations and a team-focused approach.

Keys to Success:


  • Bachelors degree required, preferably in life sciences or business, MBA or PhD preferred


  • Minimum 10 years of related experience, including in the field of analytical for CGT including regulatory requirements, product management or strategic consulting

  • Experience in a highly matrixed organization; global experience is preferred

  • Understanding of technology related to this area such as molecular, ELISA, flow cytometry, Mass spectrometry - deep understanding of Thermo Fisher technologies is a plus

  • Experience in financial modeling and market analysis is preferred

  • Results oriented with track record of success in completing projects and working cross divisionally

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in strategy role including participating in market analysis, planning, road mapping and new product development

  • Proven ability to identify strategic opportunities, set aggressive objectives, and drive key business priorities.

  • Ability to understand CGT analytical field and communicate technical information

  • Proven ability to build relationships and guide teams which include representatives from multiple functional areas, including R&D, Sales, Program Management and Manufacturing

  • Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills

  • Adaptability and ability to lead through change

  • Ability to travel globally approximately 30%
