About This Role:

Analysts conduct innovative research and deliver advice through written reports, consulting, client inquiries, and speeches. Those who contribute to Forresters technology team serve professionals who are responsible for the success of their firms strategy on networking, telecommunications, and the global ecosystem of technology-based business services.


The Senior Analyst writes to, presents to, and advises technology and business professionals on Forresters research regarding the rapidly changing communications landscape, including network technologies, providers, operations, automation, and cloud connectivity. This encompasses a broad range of services and business capabilities, all integrated into the full business technology ecosystem. The Senior Analyst researches concepts, frameworks, technologies, best practices, and business implications on how to develop, manage, and optimize networking and next-generation communications decisions and activities. We place a special emphasis on the impact all of this has on the people involved, helping to guide them in dramatically different directions. In addition to report writing, the Senior Analyst develops innovative thinking on networking that challenges the status quo.


The Senior Analyst should have a strong understanding of the business and technology issues facing networking executives, chief information officers (CIOs), chief technology officers (CTOs), architects, and teams today and an appetite for conducting and writing research to stay abreast of the issues.


Job Description:

  • Develop a deep understanding of what Forrester clients require to be successful as technology professionals, with a focus on how they deliver an optimum experience with networking technologies and services.
  • Develop ideas and content that challenge thinking and lead change in the field of next-generation networking. Related systems engineering of technology systems is key to this market-leading approach to business-optimized networks.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how IoT and edge computing change the networking landscape to provide a uniform communications infrastructure across these distributed systems, cloud services, and traditional data centers.
  • Exhibit an understanding of next-generation communications services like 5G, satellite, cable companies, and colocation providers to augment architectural choices including but beyond traditional telcos.
  • Conduct primary research on how enterprises plan to accelerate their WAN strategy and keep it evolving in pace with the constantly changing technology market.
  • Collaborate with experts on different focus areas from across Forrester roles and geographic teams to develop a complete context for these trends, both providing input to their research reports and writing reports incorporating expertise from across Forrester to provide a big picture of connectivity.
  • Collaboratively develop cohesive bodies of research that are focused on helping clients succeed with specific challenges and opportunities.
  • Write/create approximately 12 research reports per year, use social media to develop visibility for your research and Forrester, and contribute to Forrester client communities.
  • Consult with clients to apply Forresters research in the context of their specific business environment, and help solve their problems through inquiry, advisory, and in-depth guidance.
  • Present at Forrester-sponsored and industry-related events and deliver client webinars.
  • Establish an industry presence as an influential speaker and thinker; build relationships with senior technology professionals and vendor executives, CTOs, and CIOs, as well as with the journalists who cover the sector; and participate in vendor briefings and field press inquiries as necessary.


Job Requirements:

  • A strong record of academic achievement. A BA or BS degree is required; an MBA or MS degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of three to five years of technology development experience or equivalent demonstrable expertise. Development applied to networking or network operations processes is preferred.
  • A minimum of five to seven years of experience in IT management positions responsible for architecting and defining networking or communications strategy or equivalent relevant experience with a vendor or consulting firm and a deep understanding of the competitive marketplace.
  • A deep understanding of the issues, market options, and future direction for networking, including software-defined WAN, mobile wireless services like 5G, emerging WAN services, and cloud connectivity in its myriad forms.
  • A deep intellectual curiosity about the effect of technology on the business landscape; solid business instincts and a practical understanding of what makes companies tick and how technology professionals operate; and a creative view of markets, technologies, and attitudes combined with a fascination with the future.
  • Superior listening, critical thinking, and writing skills, as well as memorable presentation skills. The ability to take complex, disparate ideas and distill them into simple, provocative concepts and be willing to take a stand on vendors and outcomes.
  • The ability to travel more than 25% of the time.
