Territory Manager

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains assigned customer accounts.

  • Actively seeks new accounts.

  • Provides information to customers to help them in their purchasing decisions for Company products and services.

  • Travels to customer’s locations to follow-up with orders, answer questions, and obtain new orders.

  • Effectively communicates with potential and current customers utilizing superior communication skills and customer relation skills.

  • Enters, analyzes and monitors customer pricing letters for assigned accounts.

  • Collects receivables from assigned accounts.

  • Communicates with Branch Manager concerning vendor delivery dates, special orders and non-stock items.

  • Helps to coordinate customer deliveries requiring special attention.

  • Orders sales literature for branch.

  • Performs and completes other related duties assigned by Region General Manager or requested by the Branch Manager.


Minimum Education/Experience:A High School Diploma, or GED equivalent, and prior work experience in the HVAC industry and in sales is desired. Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication and selling skills are required. The ability to work evenings and weekends with minimal supervision is also required. Thisjobrequires the ability to read and interpret training material. Related experience and/or advanced training or any equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Language Skills:Requires the ability to read and comprehend a variety of informational documentation, accounting methods, procedures and correspondence. Requires the ability to write correspondence with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar. Must be able to communicate effectively in written and verbal forms. Requires the ability to effectively communicate with customers and employees using correct English and a well-modulated voice. Requires good voice quality that is conversational and professional. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives.

Numerical Aptitude:Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, percentages, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:Requires the ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out general written or oral instructions. Must be able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Requires good analytical and quantitative skills.

Manual Dexterity:Requires the ability to use a variety of office machines and equipment. Must have average levels of eye/hand/foot/coordination.

Physical Demands:Must be physically able to operate computers, calculators, copy machines, facsimile machines and other general office equipment. Specific visual abilities required by thisjobinclude close vision, distance vision and color vision for extensive reading and interpretation of graphs, charts and/or spreadsheets. Regular and prolonged standing and/or walking, stopping bending and climbing are required. Physical demands are at levels of those for moderately active work. Must be able to use body members to sit, move and lift or carry objects or materials weighing up to 20 pounds. Must have the ability to operate a Company vehicle and travel throughout service area.

Physical Communication:Must have the ability to talk (expressing and/or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words) and hear (perceiving sounds of nature by ear). Must possess motivational skills. Requires strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills to interact effectively with other people, inside and outside of the Company.

Working Conditions and Hazards:Work is regularly performed in an office setting but some work is conducted outside or at customer’s offices or work sites with exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes and airborne particles. There is a limited risk of exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold or heat and loud noises.
